Oklahoma Fishing License Guide
For Guests of Captain Dustin Deckard – DnA’s Guide Service
Before you hit the water with Captain Dustin Deckard of DnA’s Guide Service, it’s important to make sure you’re properly licensed to fish in Oklahoma. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned angler, having a valid fishing license is required for anyone 16 years or older fishing in public waters, including Fort Gibson Lake. This guide covers how to get your Oklahoma fishing license, what types are available, and where to go for official information.
How to Obtain Your Oklahoma Fishing License
Getting your Oklahoma fishing license is quick and easy, and there are multiple options available depending on your residency and trip length. You can purchase your license online, in person, or via the Go Outdoors Oklahoma mobile app. We recommend purchasing online ahead of your trip to avoid delays and ensure a smooth start to your fishing adventure.
Purchase Online:
Visit the official Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) website:
Click “Buy a License” and follow the prompts to choose your license type, enter your information, and complete payment. Your digital license will be emailed to you, and a printable version will be available immediately.
Purchase In Person:
Licenses can also be purchased at local retailers, including:
- Walmart (Muskogee & Wagoner locations)
- Fort Gibson Tag Agency
- Bait and tackle shops near the lake
License Types You May Need
Depending on your plans, here are the most common license options:
- 1-Day Fishing License (Resident or Non-Resident) – Great for short stays or quick outings
- Annual Fishing License (Resident or Non-Resident) – Best value for anglers visiting multiple times
- 5-Year and Lifetime Licenses (Residents only) – For dedicated Oklahoma anglers
- Paddlefish Permit (Free) – Required in addition to a fishing license if targeting Paddlefish
All anglers targeting Paddlefish must also obtain a free Paddlefish Permit, which helps the ODWC track harvest and conservation data. This can be added during your license purchase online.
Who Needs a License?
- Required for all residents and non-residents age 16 and older
- Not required for Oklahoma residents under 16 or over 65
- Free license options available for disabled veterans, seniors, and Native American tribal members (see ODWC site for details)
